Get ready for a 60-foot sign along I-80 with Jesus' name
The City of Johnston is opening up a can of worms thanks to a behind-the-scenes deal by a former city employee. This ex-staffer has been working his channels and connections to guide the mega-church in their creative writing exercise as they dip and dive through the City's Zoning Code to put up a sign significantly larger than the code allows. A sign with the name of the church? Of course not! A giant sign with Jesus' name.
Code allows for a 30ft Interstate-Monument signs
The church claims this 60ft eyesore isn't a sign - it's not a sign, y'all! It's a steeple!
As if Johnston residents are that gullible!
Tell Johnston City Council: no sign and no insider deals!
Thanks to the former city employee working his connections, the Board of Adjustments supports allowing this monstrosity - that doesn't even display the name of the church - all without a public hearing!
Contact Johnston City Council today and tell them no - the code exists for a reason! No sign and no cronyism!

-Kerrie, Johnston Resident
-Dan, Urbandale Resident
Any council member who votes to approve this sign is guilty of cronyism and favoritism!
Dan, an Urbandale resident who would be able to see this monstrosity from his home south of 35/80, brought up a great question: How much would this Interstate Monument cost? We called several local engineering firms and were quoted between $180,000 and $230,000 - FOR ONE SIGN! Even more with upcoming tariffs! Why does 86th Street need a $200,000+ sign for Jesus? Furthermore, the church purchased the property last year for $4,477,500 before investing significant money in renovations. The property previously paid $150,000 annually in property tax, now paying $0 property tax as a religious organization.
